1 LSU and 2 Alabama Are On The Big Stage Saturday Night

This Saturday night the BCS number one and two teams will be battling to see, which team has the inside track to the BCS national championship game.

The LSU Tigers are traveling to Bryant-Denny stadium to face the number two team in the nation, Alabama Crimson Tide. This game should be the game of the year.

If you think about it, it really is an elimination game for both teams.

The loser of Saturday nights game, could be eliminated to play in the SEC championship game and BCS national championship game.

The winner of Saturday nights game will have the inside track to play in the SEC championship game and BCS national championship game in New Orleans, LA on January 9, 2012.

Both LSU and Alabama have extremely good defensive units, that can control their opponents offensive units.

LSU and Alabama have two of the best defensive units in the country.

Which teams defensive unit will over power the others offensive unit?

On the offensive side of the ball, both teams like to dictate the run, then utilize their passing game. Since both LSU and Alabama run the same style of offense, the game should come down to which defensive unit controls the other teams offense.

Which teams offensive unit, will make the bigger plays?

To sum it all up both LSU and Alabama are evenly matched.

The winner of Saturday nights game will be the one that executes better on the offensive side of the ball.

However, when you expect a defensive battle, so often it becomes an offensive game.

My gut feeling though, this game will come down to which offensive team makes the bigger plays, in a low scoring affair.

My Prediction:

Alabama 24 LSU 20

Should There Be A Playoff In Division I College Football?

In recent years we've heard talks about division 1 college football having a playoff system. The reason talks have come up to have a playoff system. Smaller division 1 college football schools, such as Boise State and TCU were being left out of the equation to play for a national championship game.

Ever since the BCS (Bowl Championship Series) has been in existence, there has been controversy on who should play for the BCS national championship. There could be four teams that had the same right to play in the BCS national championship game, someone had to be left out.

In 2006 Boise State went 13-0 and was left out of the BCS national championship game. The BCS system is based on style points on how bad a team beats their opponent and strength of schedule. Boise State being in a smaller division 1 conference, keeps them out of the BCS national championship picture. They don't have the same strength of schedule, as the bigger division 1 schools.

Is that their fault?

They play their schedule, and they won the games on the field.

In 2006 Boise State went to the Tostito Fiesta Bowl, which is a BCS bowl game. They played one of the biggest names in college football, the Oklahoma Sooners. The smaller division 1 school Boise State, who had a lesser strength of schedule, than Oklahoma.

"Everybody, thought that by Boise State playing Oklahoma in a BCS bowl game, would stop the talk about a small division 1 school playing for a national championship."

Everybody figured Oklahoma would have no problem with the small school represenative, Boise State.

Well, everybody accept Boise State!

Not only did Boise State match-up with the Sooners, they beat them in over-time 43-42. With Boise State beating the bigger school Oklahoma, who plays in the Big-12 conference. Only compiled even more problems for the BCS system.

"The Big-12 conference is one of the toughest football conferences in college football."

Not only was Boise State in the mix for a BCS national championship bid, in 2006. Boise States football program is in the hunt for a BCS bowl game almost every season.

The Broncos went to the Tostito Fiesta Bowl in 2009 against TCU. Boise State won that game 17-10. Yes, Boise State played TCU, who also is a smaller division 1 school. However, TCU's football program has become one of the top football programs in the nation.

"TCU's football program has become one of the top programs in college football, they are going to be a part of the Big-12 conference in 2012."

As we've seen this last Saturday, after the first weeks BCS standings has come out. The top four spots have changed dramatically.

Did you really think the first weeks standings would hold up?

The Texas Tech Red Raiders went into Norman, OK and defeated number three Oklahoma Sooners 41-38. Most experts felt that the Oklahoma Sooners, was the best team in the nation.

Number sixteen Michigan St upset number six Wisconsin 37-31. Many experts felt like Wisconsin was the most dominant team in the Big-10.

You see where i'm coming from, upsets can happen on any given Saturday. All national championships need to be settled on the football field, not by a group of people running a point system and comparing strength of schedules.

"If division 2 schools can figure out away to have a football playoff, you would think the biggest division of college football could as well."

The greatest thing about college basketball is allowing the smaller division 1 schools to have a chance to compete for a basketball national championship. Allowing the smaller division 1 schools to compete for a basketball national championship, has made those schools be recognized in that particular sport."

If you really think about it nobody had ever heard much about UCLA, until they won all those national championships in basketball. Now they are heard about all over the country. That put that school on the map in sports. The Bruins athletic program combined men and women, has won over one-hundred national championships.

The most national championships in college sports.

You don't know what it can do for the smaller division 1 athletic programs.

Yes the smaller schools in basketball have to win their conference, but it gives the smaller schools a reason to play on the division 1 level.

"Yes there needs to be a football playoff system, to crown a true national champion."

I think you would need to get at least the top eight teams in the country, maybe even ten or twelve. Let those top teams in the country, battle for the national championship.

The division 1 is all about making revenue.

The playoff system in college football, would make them even more revenue.

Most experts may have felt that Oklahoma was the best team in the nation, they just might be. However, upsets happen and not every team is always at it's best every single Saturday. Just like any other college sport, play the season to have a chance to make the playoffs.

Then lets see, who the true national champion is.

Why do you think you have playoffs?

Week 2 BCS Standings:

LSU
Alabama
Oklahoma State
Boise State
Clemson

The game in two weeks between the LSU Tigers and Alabama Crimson Tide, could determine who will be the first team in the BCS national championship game.

This game will have all college football fans tuned in on CBS. The winner of this game should be determined, by which defense steps up. Both LSU and Alabama have superb defensive units.

Which team will have just enogh offense, to squeak by the others defense?

AP Poll-Top 5:

LSU
Alabama
Oklahoma State
Stanford
Boise State

How many of you would like a playoff system in division 1 college football?
